I have to say, Christine found her self a great friend. This pup is amazing. He was described as a german shepherd-retriever Mix and, indeed, that's what he is. Perfect blend of GS and possibly a golden retriever. His gait is that of a GS and his drive is both GS and retriever. He loves to retrieve and began retrieving to my feet right away. Just incredible. After a few days of sniffing each other through our kitchen gate and one on one introductions to Bailey, Gracie, and Ella Kodi has now taken up residence in our "doggy area" of the house and is playing & sleeping with his temporary pack.

Our Guest
Patti's (my old neighbor in G'ville) daughter, Christine, recently got a dog from her local shelter. Despite Patti telling her Christine to wait until after the family got back from a week-long trip to get a dog, she went ahead and got one anyway. So, a few days after Christine brought her fuzzy friend home she asked me if we could watch the pup while they went on their trip. After much thought Joseph and I agreed to watch her pup, Kodi.
Seth at 10-months
Seth has made it past his 10-month birthday. He is crawling, pulling up on everything, and cruising along furniture. He uses lots of consonant sounds in his "speech", takes small items out of buckets (practicing his "release") and drops them, looks at and eats books, picks up puffs using a pincer grasp. I am really happy with his development, thus far. He poops about 4 times a day and is starting to sleep through then night every now and then. Tooth count= 5 (3 on top and 2 on the bottom).

Is Sam really my child?
Sam with Princess Belle
Sam went to bed with Tinkerbell PJ's on and when I went to check
on her a few hours later she was asleep with her tutu on over her PJ's.

9 months +
Seth had his nine month checkup a week ago. He is a small fry, but doing well. weighs 16 1/2 lbs., which is the 3rd percentile. Samantha didn't even make it onto the growth chart when she was 9-months old, so I am not worried. He is at the 10th %ile for height and 75%ile for head circumference. Seth has a huge appetite. He seems to love all foods equally. Has started drinking some juice from a sippy cup and is improving on the cup use. Seth's pediatrician said he will watch Seth's weight closely but is not worried at the moment. I think Seth has Joseph's high metabolism and will always be small. Seth has turned into a pretty easy baby. He is rarely fussy and is sleeping better. He LOVES his sister and follows her all over the house. Still wakes up once or twice (usually once) a night. Would love to sleep through the night, but it could be worse.
Samantha is forever evolving. She is obsessed with wearing ballerina or princess themed clothing. She has worn a hand-me-down leotard (with tutu) several days this week along with "princess" shoes my sister-in-law sent down. Sam's made great strides with potty training this week. She even pee pee'd on the potty at a restaurant tonight!!! Go Sam. My favorite quote of the week by Sam is "I have a 'gina and Seth has a peanut."
The dogs are well. Ella has displayed "bad" separation anxiety lately and keeps jumping over our kitchen gate/barrier when she hears thunder. Bailey keeps "tip-toeing" across a window sill and jumping through an open window separating the sun room (an old screened in porch) and dining room. Ella and Bailey both "counter surf" when we aren't looking. Ella likes pizza boxes left on the counter, and bailey likes any food item in a plastic baggy. Gracie's been keeping "post" in the yard and ensuring our safety!

Very difficult getting a 9-month photo taken. Seth is on the move all the time.

8-months Update
Seth turned 8-months old on the 12th of this month. And this week he's turned into a new baby. He's still drooly, still fussy at times, and still wakes up in the middle of the night, but he's happier overall. He has a runny nose, but no cough, and he apparently feels better now than he did in February. I believe this change is largely due to his recent liking for solid foods. He is still eating Stage 1 jar foods, but I thicken the foods with rice cereal. I first introduced solids to Seth when he turned 6-months, at times when he was NOT fussy, which were far and few between. In February, he had absolutely no interest in foods, probably due to being sick, which delayed the process even more. At the advent of his 8-month birthday he started to "get it" and is now doing great. He Gets It!!! Solid foods are yummy. I have a tongue. I need to use my tongue to keep the yumminess inside!
In addition to making strides in eating Seth has made strides in gross motor development. He is sooooo close to crawling. Samantha never crawled (she scooted), so it's exciting to see him progress in this manner. I know my life will just get more hectic when he crawls. It's not like I'm exercising much these days, so at least I can do a little calorie-burning while chasing Seth and Sam around.
Samantha seems to get funnier and funnier everyday. Although, with her developing sense of humor we are seeing an increase in her attempts to challenge authority. "Samantha, no pushing, biting, or talking back to mommies, daddies, friends, or other adults. No sassy talk, back talk, or whining." She is still soooo sweet. This is just the first we've really seen her try to challenge us. Yesterday, the kids and I went to Kohl's so mommy could get new PJ's. Note to self: Kohl's does not carry MY type of PJs. Samantha begged me to buy a "kinky" black and red lingerie piece, or whatever you call it. Then moved on to the clearance rack of lacy thongs. She found three thongs for mommy. "Mommy, I found big girl panties fooooorrrrrr youuuuuuu", she said. Needless to say, I did not invest in new big-girl-panties or sexy lingerie. While moving on thru the store, Samantha found many princess items of interest. She didn't get any of them, partly due to her temper tantrum in the shoe department. Some grandma-aged woman complained about the noise and referred to Sam as "THAT GIRL". I didn't think it was THAT bad. I should have told the lady she could have bought my daughter the $34.99 pair of Sketchers (she'd outgrow in 2-weeks) she wanted if she wanted Samantha to shut up. That grandma must have been an out-of-towner b/c no local is ever that rude.....:)
Joseph and I are well. Joseph has a list of requests/tasks for me to do longer than the Declaration of Independence and has been discouraged by my response of "I will try to do it", for every request. I never know what my day will bring. Will my kids nap? Will my dogs puke? Will I have the energy? Can't do much in 60-minutes.
My new Honda Pilot seems to like going to the body shop and will be making another trip their soon. Some lady's grocery cart rolled away from her in the parking lot of the store and rammed into my car as I was pulling out of my spot. (The parking lot is sloped and I parked away from the store on the lower part of the slope). I thought I hit a car while backing out but the noise was the cart plowing into the side of my car. Another note to self: When someone's groceries fly out of their cart as a result of smashing into your car there WILL be damage. After the incident, I did not see damage and did not gather contact information from the lady. She looked and I looked at my car and didn't see anything. Joseph, found the point of impact and saw damage. So, another insurance claim, and another deductible payment is in my future. What luck.

Magic Kingdom

Sam got the best Valentine's Day gift ever, a trip to Disney World. We stopped at Disney on our way to visit my father. Our week long trip was lots of work, and we were all under the weather, but seeing our family and friends made all the driving and hellacious moments worth it. Our status at departure was as follows: I had just recovered from a cold, while Joseph had just developed my cold. Sam was in the middle of her cold, as was Seth. Sam stopped coughing mid-week, and Seth remained snotty-nosed and incredibly fussy throughout the entire trip. Day 1: drive... Night 1: stayed in Jax, FL, with friends. Received less than 5 hours of sleep. Day 2: Magic Kingdom. Somehow we remained vertical and enjoyed every moment of Samantha's special day. Night 2: Arrived at my dad's at 10PM with two screaming kids. I thought we'd be able to catch up on sleep once we got to my dad's, but it just got worse. My dad's wife, Karen, supplied us with liquid gel Tylenol daily, which seemed to subdue the intense headaches and various other aches and pains. Luckily, Sam was on the rebound and was "easy" all week..... Fast forward to Night 6: I had a meltdown in the car after listening to Seth scream for over an hour. He finally fell asleep after Joseph pulled into a sketchy gas station. Our hotel room that night was far from perfect, but at least we had beds to rest our backs on for a while. Day 7: After six more hours of driving we made it home!
Sam loved Magic Kingdom!!! She met Princess Belle, Cinderella, and Sleeping Beauty, as well as Tinkerbell. She danced with Mickey, Minnie, and all their friends, drove a car, rode a horse, went for a boat ride, and flew on magic carpets. Let's just say we got our moneys worth. Even Seth flew through the air on magic carpets and travelled the world by boat! My favorite rides was the Peter Pan in-flight ride and It's a Small World. Magic Kingdom is absolutely what it claims, a place where dreams come true!
